What we do: Websites

We have a long history of award winning website design for major clients in both the public and private sector. We combine standards-based design with flair and passion to all our clients' websites from the largest scale public systems to the most modest sites for small audiences.

Our user-focused design process has been developed and tested during our time spent building world class web systems. Our approach is based on a belief that user experiences must be designed around real people and their needs, and that complex sites does not need to be complicated.

Requirements analysis

We find that helping our clients to really understand and prioritise their audience's requirements is the key to any successful design. We aim to start all our design projects with our MI_audit_process_02.pdf, recording:

  • the organisation's main objectives and success criteria
  • key site audiences
  • prioritised user-journeys based on their desired actions

In this way we are able to propose the most effective high level design and options for its delivery. We record and deliver the results in a document and simple, visual presentation.

Detailed design

We employ a number of tried and trusted techniques for our detailed design work, focusing heavily on design patterns. Drawing upon our extensive library of existing design work in this area ensures that we follow best practice and that our clients benefit from our previous experience in this area.

In tandem with our paper based design we employ prototyping methods, and aim to build a HTML prototype to allow clients and developers alike to get hands-on experience before we proceed to the build phase.

We find this 'early view' to be the best way to flush out any issues and changes to design requirements. Our design process makes sure that we focus our time on getting the right designs in the right timeframe.

Build and Quality Assurance (QA)

We offer a full website build and testing service, working with a range of content management systems systems. However our work means that we don't need to build our own designs, and therefore just as happy to work in collaboration with a technical partner during the build and QA phase.

We find our component-based, design method using design patterns and HTML prototype to be particularly suitable for providing both developers and the QA (or testing) team in with a very clear understanding of proposed functionality. This greatly increases the accuracy of the build and therefore the efficiency of the whole design and build process.

The MI team will be available to provide design advice and consultancy throughout the implementation and QA phases of the project.
